Beaminster Festival 2021

While we are unable to bring you the full Beaminster Festival in 2021, we are pleased to announce some exciting events being staged this year. The full festival requires commitments, agreements and contracts to be made many months in advance, which the uncertainties throughout this year have made impossible.

However, the Festival organisers have been working hard to arrange a number of individual events to be staged later in the year as follows.

Saturday 28th August, 2.30pm

Open Air Theatre at The Manor – Saturday 28th August, 2.30pm

She Stoops to Conquer –  an 18th Century farce for all the family

We are thrilled to announce a performance of Goldsmith’s She Stoops to Conquer brought to us by the Rain or Shine Theatre Company on Saturday 28th August, 2.30pm at Beaminster Manor by kind permission of Christine Wood. A great success here in 2019, this company is sure to bring the joy and hilarity that has been in such short supply!

It’s the 18th century.  Kate Hardcastle is a young lady fixed up to meet the eligible Marlow with a view to marriage. Marlow is a young gent who is tongue-tied with the upper classes and downright lecherous with commoners. So when Marlow is tricked into believing Kate’s ancestral home is a country inn, and mistakes Kate for a lowly barmaid what could possibly go wrong?

Set against the increasingly chaotic proceedings of one very long night, She Stoops to Conquer is a delightful romantic romp filled with ludicrous misunderstanding, mischief and mayhem.

So pack your picnic, rugs and chairs, pop open some bubbly and sit back and relax in the summer sunshine, while we whisk you away to the time of big wigs, and even bigger dresses; where fops and foolery abound!
