Japanese violinist Coco Tomita first gained prominence as winner of the Strings Category at BBC Young Musician 2020. Her debut album Origins (Orchid Classics) earned widespread acclaim from The Strad, Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine, and The Guardian, and was chosen as Apple’s Disc of the Month in April 2022, amassing over 5.5 million streams. Her second album, Echoes, was released in 2024.
Coco performs extensively across the UK with pianist Simon Callaghan, with debuts at Saffron Hall and Bechstein Hall, and recent appearances at the Harrogate International Festival, St George’s Bristol, and Dubai Opera.
A dedicated chamber musician, she is a member of the Euphorie Piano Quartet, winners of the Fernandes Selvaggio Prize at the Trio di Trieste Competition, and also tours Japan with the all-violin ensemble QUADPHONICS. She has appeared at Prussia Cove, the Marryat Festival, and the Villars Music Academy.
Based in London and Berlin, Coco recently completed a debut Japan tour, performing with the Nagoya Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, London Mozart Players, Philharmonie Baden-Baden, and Bath Philharmonia. She studies with Professor Kolja Blacher at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler, Berlin.
