Simon Callaghan performs internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist. A regular guest at Germany’s Husum Festival of Piano Rarities, his recent recital was hailed by VAN Magazine as “cleverly curated” and by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as “technically brilliant.” He appears frequently in major UK venues and tours across Europe, North America, and Asia.
Recent concerto engagements include the Ulster Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Northern Sinfonia, and Sinfonieorchester St Gallen, under conductors such as Jac van Steen, Martin Yates and Martyn Brabbins. Chamber partners have included Miriam Margolyes, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Jack Liebeck, Raphael Wallfisch, and Coco Tomita. He is also a founding member of the London Piano Quartet, devoted to reviving neglected repertoire.
Callaghan’s acclaimed recordings for Hyperion, Lyrita, Nimbus and others span both the standard and rediscovered Romantic repertoire. His work for Lyrita includes world-premieres of British concertos with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and his four Hyperion albums for The Romantic Piano Concerto series have earned wide praise.
Artistic Director of Conway Hall and Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music, Callaghan was elected a Steinway Artist in 2012.
